This week, I had a bit of a mix-up while filming a concert at Little Bear Saloon. I thought I was there to capture a specific band, but it turns out I got the date wrong. Despite the hiccup, I managed to get some great footage and learned a few lessons along the way.
Key Takeaways
Always double-check your schedule before heading out.
Capture as much footage as possible, even if it’s not what you planned.
High-angle shots can add a unique perspective to your videos.
The Mix-Up at Little Bear Saloon
I arrived at Little Bear Saloon in Evergreen, ready to film the band. I was excited because I had found a box for my Kimble, which is always a win. But as I got set up, I realized something was off. I was supposed to film Chris King’s band, but they weren’t even playing that day. I had the wrong date!
It’s funny how these things happen. I thought I was prepared, but I didn’t double-check the schedule. Lesson learned: always confirm the date and time before you head out.
Getting the Sound Right
Even though I was at the wrong event, I still needed to get some sound. I talked to the sound guy about recording the audio from the soundboard. We were hoping to get a good mix, but it turned out that the vocals were going to be heavy while the instruments were light.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what I needed:
Soundboard Output: To record the audio.
Monitor Check: To ensure everything was working.
Footage: Just a couple of minutes of good stuff to work with.
I had filmed the band for the Foothills Forth before, and they didn’t record sound then either. So, I was determined to get it right this time.
The Right Band, Finally!
After realizing my mistake, I wrapped up and decided to grab some food. But I didn’t give up! I came back to Little Bear on the correct day, and this time, the right band was playing. I made sure to double-check everything, including the sound guy’s setup.
This time, I was ready to film some great band stuff. I got a fantastic balcony shot, which is rare in clubs. Here’s what I focused on:
High-Angle Shots: Captured from the balcony.
Low-Angle Shots: Filmed people dancing in front of the band.
Close-Ups: Got individual shots of each band member.
Guitar Solos: Made sure to capture those moments too!
Moving On to the Next Gig
After getting some solid footage at Little Bear, I headed over to Elevation Celebration for more event coverage. I was also filming for Ripple Ice Cream, a new client I’m working with. It’s always exciting to take on new projects and build relationships with clients.
In the end, even though I had a rough start, I managed to turn the day around. It’s all about adapting and making the best of the situation.
So, if you ever find yourself in a similar situation, just remember: stay flexible and keep filming! You never know what great content you might end up with, even if it’s not what you originally planned.
Catch you in the next one!
